Gaming 2004....

What game are the best that's ever been released 2004? Not gonna start a voiting becuase I might miss some game, but I can list a few games that's I know if might not be the best of my opinion but do have lots of fans and in there perspective they might think it is the best!

(I haven't played all!)

Doom 3 - finaly ships, after delays! (PC)

Half Life 2 - finaly ships, after a doubtfull "stolen" source code, and many delays. (PC)

Halo 2 - ships as expected. And didn't dissapoint the fans... (Xbox)

Rome: Total War - Finaly see the day light! As there where no official release date, the developers only said, we publish the game when we think it's finnish, kind of cold cool thught of them (PC)

GTA: San Andreas - get's in time. As always this might be the game of the year. Everyone love's it! And Rockstar have done it again! No delays from them... no no! (PS2)

Battlefield Vietnam - Bases on the same old Battlefield 1942 graphic engine . Kind of old..... (PC)

Fable - Most dissapointed game of the year on Xbox? (Xbox)

Football Manager 2005 - They change publisher to Sega from Eidos and they got it even bether than last Championchip Series. (PC)

Flatout - The best car game of the year? (PC)

"EA Sports" 2005 - A new game every year from EA, note that NHL season is cancel this year 04/05... (all)

Ghost Recon 2 - Don't know what to say...supprised that it's released so early? (all)

Sims 2 - Most overrated game ever? - (PC)

Far Cry - Well it's hard to compete in this genre becuase Doom 3 and Half Life 2.....VS Far Cry....hmmm gues whos wins? (PC)

Chronicles of Rid**** - It's Swedish! And it's having an own developed Graphic Engine to.... - (PC and Xbox)

Need for speed underground 2 - about 2 years from there first title...can this game be a release just to make money for EA Games? (ALL?)

Burn out 3 - EA games buyed up the title and did a god job? (PS2)

Söldner - Secret Wars - One of MANY titles from German. (PC)

Sacred - German - Did this release in 2004? (PC)

Settlers 5 - German - Changed the game totaly can that be a winning concept? Note: Release in 2005 in US. (PC)

Gangland - The years shortest game? Note: In Sweden it's called Family Wars why? It's not a big company that's made gangland....are it gonna be buyed up by Elecetronic Arts in 2005? (PC)

Axis and allies - Well it was about time that they upgraded the game...but why did they change the game concept? Why do they always make "warcraft" thing of a border game..... (PC)

--->Pirates!<--- - My favorite - Have Sid Mier's Done it again, to make the award winning cult game Pirates to a new modern version of it and not lost a singel fan and status of the original game? (PC)

Unreal Tournament 2004 - Empire's favorite - The best Multi Player Online Game 2004? (PC)
-------
Protections:
Starforce - Most hated Game protection ever in 2004?

In 2004 Macromedia change there SafeDisc protection from 3.2 to without announcement version 4. But still is the most beaten protection of all time!

SecuROM - Didn't do mutch.....

Valve - Valves protection it's one of the best....but didn't took to long before Vengance to beat them.. but just look at there release and you might see how a great job valve and vengance have done. Both to encrypt and decrypt the protection..

-------
More to come in this list?

I was thinking of starting a similar thread, asking members what their overall game of the year was. The only good titles I have played this year are Half-Life 2, GTA: San Andreas and Burnout 3. Burnout 3 is my overall game of the year, its got something that only a few games ever have. Cant explain it, but Burnout 3 has it. Never even played the the first 2 games. Biggest piece of crap of the year was DOOM 3. Nuff said.

Looking to the future, I'm excited about Gran Turismo 4

most disappointing: Medal of Honor - Pacific Assault

best multiplayergame: Söldner - Secret Wars (I know it was extremly buggy and unstable, but current patch version just rocks)

Hmm for me Im going with Farcry as the best and Shellshock Nam 67 as the most disapointing. HL2 was right up there too tho!
And I also thought Medal of Honor-Pacific Assault was fairly good too which brings me to ask you Eagle "why didnt you like it?" Im just curious to hear your reason.

well, the only reason why I didn't like doom3 was because it was way too dark. Gloomy looking is one thing, but almost no light at all is absolutely horrible.
I know more people that were disappointed with Halo 2 that weren't disappointed. Single player is all I wanted to play, and I only got half of it.

Out of that list, (i have played very little on that list) i'd have to say burnout 3. My brothers and I are hooked on that game. Although, I mostly just play the crash setting.

Personally, I am waiting for Quake 4 and the new Unreal. THey both look awsome.

most disappointing:
Settler 5 (Die Siedler 5) - It isn't a new Settler-Game. It's more a WarCraft 3-Clone.
Pirates! - It don't have the fun of the Original-Game by Microprose (1987)

best multiplayer:
Unreal Tournament 2004 (Map: Deck 17 / Invasion-Mode / 10 Player with only SniperRifles ---IT ROCKS !!!---)
FlatOut (DestructionArena)

best SionglePlayer:
Half-Life 2
LotR Battle For Middleearth

ummm, well. MOHPA is kinda boring. simple.

I would call it 'Bloatware'
Cutscenes are fully patriotic, Americans rock, Japanese are little bastards. It plays like Serious Sam. You go along the path and hit a large group of enemies. Kill em all and go on just to, you name it, meet the next big group you kill again etc...

Multiplayer is even worse.
Someone who plays Call of Duty TDM knows it got a bad spawn system. One team always gets pinned down in one place with litte chance to get away. Its even worse in MOHPA. In TDM and DM most of the time enemies you killed respawn right behind you. When they have killed you guess where you will respawn Also the weapons are totally imbalanced. Every f*ckin guy takes the lame 50 shot SMG. Not spray and pray but rather spray and rule. If you're up with a rifle for a challenge your chanceless. Even if you rifle them in the head you only incapacited them, meaning the opposing medic can revive them and you get no kill.

But why dont you rent it and judge for yourself?

@Eagle
Hmmm yeh I agree with what you say about the 'Americans rule........ etc' but unfortunately most games go down that road so I guess its something I have come accustomed to! Sort of now expect it from most war type games.
I do have Call of Duty but I am more of a single player gamer and havent got into the online side of things. I have however played it on lan with my kids and sort of know what you are sayin about the respawning side of things! But I do think both COD & MOH looked fantastic.
And I also thought Serious Sam was a good hoot/laugh! When it first came about it was good to see so many things on the screen at once without the game spluttering. But yes I do see what you are saying about the games they do tend to be quite lineal still! Even HL2, as good as it was, was still very lineal!
Anyway I appreciate you voicing you opinion. Enjoy the New Year and lets hope it brings us another top game real soon.
