Sega to make future dreamcasts CDR incompatible

Does anyone know if this has happened yet?

I've read up on some of the info and found that all fall 2000 dreamcasts (now) and onward were supposebly to become incompatible with CDRs. Can anyone verify that their new dreamcasts work with backups? How about the new black "sports" dreamcast?

I would really appreciate any feedback, as I don't want to make a purchase that I'll regret later.
