connecting xbox

hey guys i never had a problem ftping from my xbox to my pc b4 after i got some help here. but now i have comcast internet. and i also had find out that i had to purchase(which i did) another ip address if i wanted to play xbox live if i wanted to hook up my xbox through a switch(hub). for some reason now i cant seem to connect to my xbox using flashxp. when i run evox it gives me the ip address which i then put that in the flashxp and i hit connect....but it is a no go. i cant seem to connect at all. when i had dsl with a router and hub i never had to purchase another ip address for xbox live to work or to connect my xbox to my pc using a ftp program. so how do i go about fixing my ftp'ing blues.... do i have to put the other ip address that i bought from comcast in the evox ip settings? and if so how do i find that new ip address?

I guess I dont fully understand the details on why exactly you changed ISPs or have to buy more addresses but I do know a few tidbits that might help:

1. you didnt have to have 2 separate addresses when you used a router because to any outside network your xbox and computer were the same destination and the data was "routed" to the correct device once it came in your router

2. to find your computer's IP you can type "ipconfig /all" in the Run box from the start menu OR you can just go to www.whatismyip.com where it will instantly tell you your address using magic and the miracles of modern science

My first guess is you've got an address error somewhere. After that I would check your cabling.

i fixed my problem ..i just re-installed slayer's auto installer and did a clean install again..problem solved. but for some reason im having very very very slow uploading speeds when i try to ftp madden 2005 from my xbox to my pc..speed is around 28kbs..but with other games...its super fast ..but with this one...its like a snail.

btw...i had to purchase another ip address from comcast over the phone cause that was the only option i had. cause i even directly connected my xbox to the modem and i couldnt get pass the step on the dns server connecting part. but after i purchased another ip address from comcast, the technical support just told me he would just have to reboot the modem and it worked ..it immediately worked and i was playing online in matter of mins.

I had the same prob in regard to online gaming as well. prob solved by adding ip address same as you frequency. Its the way they have it set up i guess. my router wouldnt even work for some reason. I just ran a new cable from my hub and wahla it worked fine. I may try again later cause there is a way to do it without adding the extra ip. if i figure it out, i will let you know. its basic networking. shouldnt be that difficult to get it up and running. Would save money on getting rid of the extra ip too. i will try it tomorrow and let you know.

crazygamelover...that would be cool if u let know if u find a way...comcast told me they would have to charge me an extra $6.95 for the extra ip address....damn comcast....lol. i guess thats how they make their extra money on top of ur already huge amounts of revenue by not allowing xbox live subsribers to just plug in their xbox to the computer modem and start having fun...haha. oh well ...im one of the suckers that got sucked in by the black hole.

i have had comcast internet for over 3 years and i have never had a problem connecting to live through my router( I have the x-box connected to the router through 2 additional 6 port switches daisy-chained) i only have one ip address and it is seamless.

Try setting you internet connection settings in your router to dynamic ,and your DNS server to auto that may help.

I hope this can save u a couple bucks a month

well u see..i dont have a router at all. when the comcast internet installer came and installed the inernet, he just had a modem and thats how i got connected. he didnt set up the modem w/ a router b/c i had one computer only so there was no need for a router.

I did not realize you were routerless in that case i guess the only way to connect is with another ip.
It would not be a bad idea to purchase a router, linksys has them on sale at office max for about $60, and once you get one you can do away with the additional ip adress and re-coup the cost of the router in 6 months or so.
Plus with a router you have alot more functionallity with your network, not to mention almost all routers have built-in fire walls.
But hey if it works what the hell.

im defintley thinking of a router cause it will pay for itself in like 6 months or less sense im paying like $6.95/month extra . plus for some reason im getting slow ass uploading speeds whn i ftp my games to my pc to patch them up and stuff. the highest upload speed i get is 30kbs, which sucks major ass if u got like 3.7gb game. ive never had this problem when i had dsl with a router...my games would be uploaded in matter of mins.....not hours. im pretty sure once i get my router and do away with extra ip address, i can just hook up my xbox to the router which will(i think) increase my upload speeds from when i had dsl.

well i tried it for you frequency and I had probs with my router setting up. it is a linksys and it did not work. ive yet to figure out what the prob is as it should be working. i may have a bad router but i am not sure as of yet. I will keep testing different network techniques and see if i can get it going. As of now i am in the same boat as you with this second ip crap. I have to recheck my cables and put a tester on them to see if i am getting a signal. hopefully it is just a bad cable. I checked all of the settings for the xbox configurations and it all looked good so i will keep trying. I would be able to get to it again til later next week due to work but it has to work. i have the Network Everywhere 4 port cable/dsl router, model # nr041. i will keep you posted here and let you know before you go and spend the money only to find out it dont work. i will be back at it on tuesday 8/17/04. let you know more then.

thanx crazygamelover for ur trial and error on the router option. if it doesnt work for some reasn..oh well..at least u tried and i'll just stick with my 2nd ip address dilema sense i need it so that my xbox has an ip address to upload my games to the pc using flashxp. althought i got to admit...it is hella slow..28kbs but i guess its better than nothing.

u seem to have ur whole house all networked...as for me i would like that but then my house would like a spaghetti factory....too much wires, and wireless is too rich for my blood right now. and i will wait for ur results when u get back...thanx again.

No go man! Either i missed something or maybe my isp has a router block somehow. I bet thats what it is cause I have tried just about every config i can think of. I even tried to put 2 network cards in one pc and run a network off of that just like a homebrew network and its still a no go. Its got to be the Cable companys doing. I have just about used every network trick in the book and it is gettin' somewhat agravating. I am a very persistant person too so you can just imagine the time i have been havin'

Oh well I gave it my best shotz and it wont go for me so I will stick with the second ip for now. If you do get yours to work or someone knows a trick i didnt try, let us both know.

Is it possible to stop a piggybacked signal through a network like that, or stop a router from being used? There must be a way to get this to work cause this extra ip $$$ should not be required.

Edit: Maybe the xbox itself has something to do with this. ??? Anyone here got theirs networked without a second ip fee? Either thru comcast or charter cable companies?

well thanx for trying to crazygamelover....but i bet my bottom dollar ..its the cable companys doing..just to steal an extra buck from us. b4 i had cable, i had dsl...and i could run multiple pc's and my xbox simultaneously without no hassle...and now that i switched over to cable..comcast*cough* there ripping me off by assigning me a 2nd ip address just for my xbox...that licks ass..but oh well. as for me at the moment i'd rather pay the extra bucks for the ip address than to get involve with something that is gonna give me headaches and frustration.....lol. and guess what ever sense i got comcast and the 2nd ip address for my xbox...whenever i ftp to my pc ..wether it be games or software..my upload to and from my xbox is at a snail speed of 28kbs ...but b4 i had cable...my upload speeds were way more than..alot more. For madden it now takes me me one full day to upload (2.72gb) or something like that. if thats the way it has to be ...then so be it.

for the time being anyway I will try again when i consult with my friend who taught me all of my network tricks. If i ever get it too work, i will let you know. Who knows, maybe someone here knows a thing or 2 about it and can help us both out. Either way i guess its the 2nd ip for now.
Keep ya posted if there is any change.
