DVD Copying Ban proposed in the US

A proposed amendment to the current copy protection license governing DVDs would completely ban all DVD backups, and prevent DVD playback without the DVD disk being present inside the drive. The proposed amendment was made public in a letter sent by Michael Malcolm, the chief executive of Kaleidescape, a DVD jukebox company whichsuccessfully defeated a suit by the DVD Copy Control Association (DVD CCA) this past March. The proposed amendment is scheduled for a vote on Wednesday, according to Malcolm.

Even if we were able to make a backup according to other acts. This issue would also prevent anything but original DVD's from being played in dvd players. Unlike vague laws now, this one would restrict you from using a backup, not just copying disks.

In my opinion, it won't happen, but the US is so screwed up on the judicial level that you never know.

makes u wonder why they dont stop 'bad' things on the net like kids being abused, people being ripped off and so on, they put FAR too much effort into this shit, and neglect the real problems... why.. well cos their bills are paid by the fat cats and the police look good if they get a result.. pity the public dont really give a shit about it

There is also word going about that little japanese scientists have came up with an anti-camera cinema screen.

It supposedly sends out some sort of magnetic pulses along the screen which cant be seen with the naked eye but video cameras will pick it up, therefor distorting the screen.

Shame for the kiddies if its true, no free movies for them :P

It can probably be turned off. That means that there would only be nice quality telesyncs, because people would only be able to do it when the theater is empty lol.
