Problem with LAN-Connection
Perhaps someone here can help me. I'm desperate with this.
![]() I have two computers: - a normal PC with internet connection and lan-adapter (192.168.0.1) running WinXP Pro SP2 - a mediacenter-pc with lan-adapter (automatic ip) running WinVista Ultimate The pcs are connected with a CrossLink-LAN cable. The internet connection sharing is working fine (i can surf the www with the mediacenter-pc). When i give the mc-pc a fixed ip, the internet isn't working. I have three shared folders on the mc-pc, all with full-access-rights. (i use the same account-name on both pcs) I can ping both pc from the other. I can surf the web, but I CAN'T SEE THE MC-PC AND THE THREE SHARED FOLDERS IN NETWORK ON MY NORMAL PC. ![]() Any solution?

A lot of people are having probs with this.
If folders arent classed as Administrator some folders wont show up on networks (usually turning off the AUC helps with this) Then MS removed the PC-PC Sync feature, which is a shame. Trying mapping the drives, then turn off Network Discovery. Also make sure the username/passwords used on both machines are identical. And open an explorer window and type in \\computername (computername being the name of the computer you want to access) |

This is exactly what don't want to work. When i use the "SoftPerfect Network Scanner V3.3.148" it find my MC within 1ms, but the shared folders aren't shown.
Do you know any other tool utility/tool for sending/copying files between two pcs?

Uhm, can you install software onto the mediacenter PC? If so, FTP, SFTP, SCP could also be a way to go. (E.g. SftpDrive is quite useful software - many colleagues of mine are using it to access our internal development web servers -: it shows servers allowing SCP access as a local drive.)

ftp probably indeed the easiest method
server and clients installed on both pc's used less cpu for me than using drive maps... and a lot less hassle too..

@Joe: Yes, i can install software on the MC. It's normal WinVista. The MediaCenter-Software is only a programm.
I will try "SftpDrive" (6 weeks are free) and then decide if i pay the 39$. (I will give response about the result.)

So, i tried this "SftpDrive". This is not what i need.
It gives you files on ftp-server as an normal harddisc-drive. Other ideas?

Now i use (until i find a better one) the programm "WWW File Share Pro".
It let me upload files from my normal pc to the mc-pc via internet-browser. The problem is, i can't upload more than one file together.

I got WinXP MediaCenter Edition from a friend. He don't need it anymore, so i can use it. With the MCE the LAN-Connection is working very well.

i dont know if vista has the future and it might sound stupid, but the xp "create a home network" option from "my network connections" has always worked wonders for me.

I got it now working with vista.
A friend of me told me that the account on the MediaCenter-PC needs a passwort. I don't work without passwort. That isn't documented on microsoft knowledge base. Now it works the normal way.l ![]() (I dropped WinXP MCE, because the MC has to much bugs.)
