Where do i start? HELP!!

I have been thinking of getting a cdwriter to have copies of my dreamcast games, music just incase the originals get scratched (kids), also to store other data. What kind of Cdwriter would be best for a budget user? what things would i need to know about copying the gdrom and burning the data onto a cd? what kind of specifications does my pc need to carry out these actions?
Why cant i sleep tonight? (hehe).
If anyone out there got the answers to my questions I BEG you before my kids decide all my cd`s are frisbees, jewellery, mirrors or letters and destroy them, to either post a follow-up or email me.
