DVD Movies
So is there currently anyway to play DVD movies on the xbox (with menus) sans playback kit or throwing Divx copies onto the hd? I've been searching around with no luck.
Thanks in advance |

Get the DVD-kit... Pure and simple...
Otherwise you could get DVDX by TeamXecuter even though I am not 100% sure it supports menus but I think it does. Putting DivX copies on your hdd won't give you any menus so I am not sure what you mean there...

I mean I'd prefer to just stick the dvd in and not copy it to the hard drive, sorry if i wasn't clear there.
Well, if there's no other solution, there's no other solution... I guess I'll wait for XBMC to sort out the menus... Last edited by RichMac; 17-07-2005 at 12:36. |

Um you just pop it into your DVD-reader (in the xbox), and press "DVD" or whatever it shows up as in your dashboard.
What dashboard are you using btw? If you are using XBMC as dash and everything go get DVDX, open the xboxmediacenter.xml, edit the line that says "<DVDplayer></DVDplayer>" to "<DVDplayer>E:\Apps\DVDX</DVDplayer>" or where you out DVDX. If you are using EvolutionX edit the evox.ini file and add this line: DVDPlayer = "f:\Apps\dvdx\default.xbe" in the beginning of the ini file (in the [misc] section, also note that the path is mine and you must change it to fit yours). Almost the same applies to Avalaunch or whatever... When you've done that pop in the DVD select DVD (menu alternative DVD in EvoX, the Disc in Avalunch and whatever in XBMC). Enjoy the movie...

ok, there's been some confusion there, any search I made of dvdx and so on is a avi/SVCD creation program by labDV
hence the confusion, people had mentioned using that to make divx copies to throw onto their xbox I found the xbox program dvdx now though, threw it on, I gotta sort out the controls, but I'll play with it for a bit thanks |

get the v2 (if you don't have it) I think there might be a hacked xbox dash that wil lplay dvd's without the dongle as well. I will see if mine does sometime today. If so, it would be a better alternative due to full dvd support.
