PS TWO Mod Chip Advice

I just got the new PS Two as a gift and i am wanting to mod it with a new chip because i have a couple of ps2 games that are scratched bad. I heard that there is problems with the new ps2 and mod chips though. I also have no soldering skills and was planning on having someone like sped mod it if i have it done but i noticed he is not doing it at the moment. Can anyone advise me on what to do? I was looking at the Crystal chip because it has many of the features i want.

Take the advise posted on Sped's site and wait until a 100% working solution has been found. I am doing the same myself in not modding any PStwo's until its sorted.

Well, the CC is an awesome chip, and apparently a new batch fixes the problems of the initial PSTwos - time will only tell however...

I don't actually mind the new PSTwo now it's here = but it does need these issues addressing before i'd buy one. The reason I will never get one however, is that there is no bay for the HDD - oh yeah, and I have a V7

We are in the process of acquiring one type of V12 fix. It is a combination of the Diode fix and the Matrix PIC fix. This will be offered in addition to an install in the V12's for a small fee of $10 for those that feel they would like something like this. It looks like this.

Weather its needed or not I cant say 100% but some people fell some sort of fix is needed. We have installed a few v12's now with no fix and they are still working fine.

Read this post for an explanation of what is currently going on.

I cant exchange the ps2 and i like having the newer one because of certian reasons but i have noticed it does get very hot. Is that a problem or been a problem for a lot of modders? Also i will wait a while longer and see what sped does and what others do and if it looks like the fixes help or it doesnt need a fix then i will prob end up getting the crystal.

It gets hot because its soo small, thats one of the major problems.. Maybe mod your case and add a PC fan to it a 120x120 will do lol

I know why u want the slim one.. because its new and everyone wants it, Lol.. shame they didn't make it good, and just rushed it out again. Crap laser, overheats, no hdd etc!

I heard besides the first batch that the lasers are stronger. Also i cannot exchange it because of the fact that it was a gift from a close friend.

Nah, the lasers are cheap. IMO the only consoles with decent lasers are v5, v6, v7.

ok if you can't sell it maybe you should wait a bit before you mod it. If it dies then at least you can mail it back to sony under warranty.
