E-machine laptop/notebooks? Are they OK?

Well, I see a great deal on a refirbished E-machine laptop/notebook. I have a budget of $1000 (USD). It is not for hardcore gaming (it is for school and furutre dev.), but I at least want to be able to play games on it. It has the anthlon 64 3000+ CPU. Here is a link.

I have seen how bad desktop emachine PC's can be. I just wanted to ask if their laptops are also toilet worthy like the desktops. I have heard little to no complaints about them, nor any advertisements.

anyone have one or know somebody with experiance from them?

Well, I guess I couldn't get a more personal opinion, so I relied on some reviews I read a while ago. Long story short, I bought it and will be recieving my new lappy tuesday.

4 usb's. 2 on the side, 2 in the back. It has a cd-rw/dvd player combo. That is all I really need. I have a desktop that is used for burning, since the HDD is twice as large to hold space.

Anyways, it seems to be pretty cool. The only thing is that I am trying to install xp64. I wiped the drive so it is pretty useless at the moment. I have to wait until 8:30 when MS's phone service is finally working. Argh, longest 3 hours of my life. But almost there.

well, I installed the x64 version of xp64. It gave me a year evaluation, luckily, it only took about 15 minutes to realise how unsupported it was with the amd chipset. No wireless card support or gfx drivers support. That was all it took

I put xp pro back on but had to do a hacked firmware update because of service pack 2. Emachine doesn't support bios upgrades, and sp2 completely rendered hybernation and ALL of the function keys useless. Also meaning I could not enable my wireless net card. All is fine and the laptop is great now.
