DRU-500ax cd-24x = cd-1x????

I am having some troubles with this burner. It has always been like this, and I usually used a seperate cd burner to burn cd's, which was also 24x. I lost access to that burner so now it bugs me.

Anyways, I have the dru-500ax burner for over a year. I have upgraded the firmware as they were released. So I am up to date on that part. Well, no matter what speed I select to burn cd's, it always burns at 1x, or something very slow like that (i can't tell exactly). However, I have tried a couple different software. Nero, Recordnow, they all have done the same thing. Basically, it says something like "burning started at 24x", or however each software states it. But, it does not burn at 24x. For example, I am burning a cd as I type this. It is burning the full disk at 24x, is only 57% done, and has been 12 minutes. Will take about 20mins to complete and it should have taken somewhere around 5, if that long. (the media is 52x i believe)

So, is anyone else experiencing this problem, since it probably isn't software? I was thinking about upgrading my burner (since I have a 50 pack of unsupported dvd media as well), but want to make sure there is nothing I can do. DVD settings work perfectly.

Mine was working fine as long as I had it. Now, because of my AO7 it is sleeping in my closet.
