PS2 just died on me, should I repair or buy new?

Hey all, my PS2 just kicked the bucket. The laser was getting worse and worse so I went ahead and bought and used a lens cleaner and hoped it was working. But now when I try to load a game, any game, original or backup, it just makes a lot of noise and doesn't load. I got my ps2 pre-modded with a Messiah 2 Pro from www.socalmods.com and now I'm wondering if I should see bout getting it repaired somewhere or just get a new ones.

What do you guys think? And know of a good place? I live in NJ so if you think I should fix it, I'd have to send it somewhere, nowhere really around here as far as I know. And if I have to buy a new one, that's 270 down

Any help is greatly apprechiated.
