Help! I can't burn DVDs

this problem has developed since changing to vista, but even when i put xppro back on, same deal....now i got vista back on.
every once in a while a dvd works, but for the most part after a "successful" burn the dvd is still BLANK! i dont get it? every burn proggie does the same thing..no errors, just a blank dvd. i should say cds burn/play fine. 2 burners, with both fw's up to date. the only thing i notice diff't is when burning the thing seem to hang longer on lead in/lead out. any ideas??????

As usual in such cases, the first thing to do is the following. Take a DVD burnt on your PC to another PC; can you read the DVD there? Take a DVD burnt on another PC to your PC; can you read the DVD?

Also, try other burners; check the DMA setting for the drive; enable/disable buffer underrun protection during burning; try reading factory made DVD's. Improvize!

thanks for the response...reads factory dvds fine. the discs i make at first cause everything to lock up when the tray is inserted, the lite on the drive just flashes 100mph. when i eject the drive, windows runs fine again. if i wait it out until the drive "gives up on" reading the dvd, then check that disc in nero it shows as empty. strangley i noticed lately that after a "successfull" burn..that produced a blank disc, lokoing at the burnt to surface it all looks un-burnt, except for a noticeable ring abotu 1/2 inch in from the center..im stumped

This must be some communication problem between the drive and the operating system because of faulty motherboard, IDE/S-ATA cable, driver, DMA settings, other OS settings, whatever... (The operating system is notified about a new media having been inserted into the drive and the OS desperately tries to get some information about the media once the drive finished processing it... in vain.) Try these.

the os files should be ok because i developed the prob under vista went back to xp then back to vista again all with a clean install each time. everything inside LOOKS ok. i think it hangs cuz theres something on the disc to be read, the cpu just cant make heads or tails of what it is. put in the stand alone and within 15 seconds it says cannot play this disc. strangely every once in a while ill make 1, put it back in to see if it reads, the drive starts to hang so i get pissed off and shut down the comp and walk away. come back later boot up the comp go into my comp and see d:\saw 3_ws and it plays fine. ??? beats the sh... outta me

if i remember right the only thing outta place in the nero log was something like invald key address...or something like that

HOWEVER!!!! Ive found now that take the iso image...1 that wouldnt burn correctly before, lets say scarface. run that image back thru dvd shrink this time make the output as ts folders, then burn .....and its good.. beats the shtt outta me. guess i got alotta work to do then with the 80 or so isos i have

Huh? What ISO's, where are they from? What is the difference between burning ISO's and burning whatever files on that problematic drive?

well its back. burning ts folders in ashampoo and it gets to 100% the crashes on lead out. annymore ideas? thats the one constant w/ this it hangs on lead in/lead out causes it to crash

got daemon tools installed?
tried doing the burn in safe mode?

daemon tools no, safemode = same thing. it seems to be to be some kinda prob in the lead out area
