NEC ND-1300A communication failure?

uhh i had this drive for a while and i havent really used it but i tried to backup a game the other day and when i try to burn it says communication failure and makes an expensive coaster.... i have burnt 3 video DVDs succesfully, but since those i havent been able to burn ANYTHING. i ried to backup my music onto one but communication failure... i tried to burn backup dls.... communication failure... anyone else know maybe what the problem is? im thinking of putting it in another computer in my house and maybe that will work... not sure
