Hey guys, hows it going?
Well, im entering the world of being actually able to backup my PS2 games, and I've read alot of posts regarding it, havent done it yet, but have a couple of questions.

Ok Heres and example:

I am currently running nero 6. Have an LG 4040B, and a launch PS2.

FOr testing purposes, I just put WWE Smackdown: HCTP in my LG DVD ROM. I opened up nero and did a DVD copy. This now created an image file on my HDD.

As I said, I dont even have my mod yet I was just testing and trying to get info, before I actually waste money and burn 10000 coasters.

1) Which MOD is best, I did read about a few, but I want to continue playing online with my original games with no headaches and hopefully a mod that will be compatible with the HDD when it arrives. So one that I can turn on and off would be best.

(back to the actual game)
2) Now that I have an image file made from nero of my Smackdown, is that it? Do I just use nero again, and burn image file to a DVD-R?

OR

Is patching required? Do I have to do anything to thta image file, before burning? If so, is there a site that has these patches for PS2 games?

I was told if using the slide tool, you didnt need a chip. Is taht so? I have a v9. What chip is best for this version? Also, using a Sony DRU-510A. Anything negative about this burner? Thanks.

Hey NatureX.
1: the best mod is the DMS3. it will be ready for the harddrives when they arrive and is also upgradeable via cd. it is a bit costly but without a doubt is the best. "Trackml2" would need a V9 DMS3 and natureX you didn't state your ps2 version, if you are unsure just tell us the numbers on the back(SCHP:xxxx). read up on the DMS3 mod chip at www.dms3.com. there are other mods which are not upgradeable like magic,messhia,apple,smartchip and the duo.

2:You are ready to just burn smackdown but i would recomend that u dont use NERO and that u get Record Now Max. it is teh best prgrame for backing up ps2 games.

As for the slide card. sure use it, Wreck your ps2 by shoving a knife/card into the drive and ripping it apart it may work for a few days if your lucky. plus it doesn't boot all games and you will also need to swap. all the modchips i listed are direct boot.

1. Most modchips nowadays have a sleep function that allows the play of "ORIGINAL" games online. All you usually have to do is hold reset button for 5 seconds to put chip into sleep mode (depending on which chip you have and which version ps2).

2. Yes just burn your file when your ready.

Patching is not something you have to worry about just yet.

Smartchip or DMS3 and a few others just do a search.

If you got the PS2 on launch date odds are its a v1 or v2. If thats the case i would sell it and buy a newer version. I dont mod anything older than a v5.

I have been considering turning down V4 and earlier consoles for some time now. And now that I know Warlock is doing it I might finally add something on my site about this as 80% of the V4 and earlier consoles that I get to mod I cant because of bad lasers that cant be adjusted even.

The slide tool is in the garbage. I will have the DMS3 v9 installed. A few more questions.

1) Is a Sony DRU-510A an acceptable burner?
2) Once the DMS3 is installed is a GS2 or a AR2 required or is DMS3 all you need?
3) Where can I get RecordNow Max? All searches turn up RecordNow DX, which also came with my burner.
4) HALF KIdding, Anyone looking to be my mentor? I will call you master and a jedi I will be when you are done. LOL. Really, it is nice to have your help.
