Laptop DVD backup

Quick question, looking at getting a laptop & wanted to get a dvd writer in the package. Anything specific I should & should not go for?
Mainly going to use it to get large amouts of pictures/film off the PC. Will also use it to backup DVD film colletion if possible with one DVDR drive & the hd ?? IS it a pain I assume it is copy dvd onto hd & then backup onto disc.. yawn... had a look at clone dvd tech support & they directed me here.

one last point what is the wierdy beirdy script that puts the company I work fors logo on the mane page.. ? anyone else get this???

cheers

A
