Backup problem

Having bought a Writer I wanted to backup my PC games and put the originals away, using alcohol 120%. My writer can read it fine, but my normal cdrom drive cannot read it properly, it crashes during install with a read error. I then tried it on my dads PC and his writer can read it but normal cdrom cannot. I tried burning it on my dads writer and the same thing happens. I have tried to different brands of cdr. SKY and memorex. Both writers are also different brands(mine is Liteon and my dads is Sony). Both mine and my dads cdrom drives can successfully read the same games that were done at a friends house. What could be causing this? Could it be alcohol 120% causing this? It is on both mine and my dads PC. However I do not know what software my friend uses.

Thanks in advance.

What games were done at your friends house?

The games are Neverwinter Nights and Diablo 2. I copied them at my house and they would read on the writers but not the cdrom drives, I sent them to my friends and he did me another copy and they read fine on the cdrom drives. The problem is not one of copy protection, it gives a read error during installation.

Sounds like your friends software/hardware is able to do good copies, correct?

Check the version of his software. Maybe he has a superior burner? A hidden configuration setting?

If its possible, install your burner in his comp and see if your burner has the same issues there.

I cant see his writer being better, it is a ancient 8x Sony drive. Mine is a 40x liteon and my dads is a 24x sony and discs done in both have had trouble in the ordinary cdrom drives. Only common thing was the software so I guess I'll try different software.

Some older drives burn better. Sometimes burning at a slow speed 1x or 2x or 4x will give better burns.

Have you read this thread?

And you know Neverwinter Nights and Diablo 2 are Securom protected. Diablo with an old SecuROM 4 (if you patch it) and Neverwinter Nights with a new SecuROM 4.8->
