X2: Wolverine's Revenge - Backing up...
I got this game for my birthday and haven't found a working no-cd crack yet. So, I'd like to make a copy to use instead of always having to put the CD in the drive. Problem is, when doing so with Nero all I get are errors...
Anyone know if this is the copy-protection at work and if there's a way around it? Might just make an image I can use directly from the HD, but don't know how! Oh well, any pointers would be welcome! Thanks!

The read errors at the beginning of the cd are normal, because this game is protected with Safedisc2.
You can make an image of the cd (i prefer Alcohol120% for that) and mount the image in a virtual drive. Perhaps you need to enable the Safedisc2 Emulation...

Thanks! I'll work on this tomorrow...
![]() On a somewhat rant: Why the companies putting out games can't let us decide if we want to use the CD while playing or not is beyond me. If they can have copy-protection that makes sure the CD is in the drive and is real, couldn't they also just have protection that makes it only installable if it's a real copy? Guess not...

I have tried Alcohol 120% (the free trial copy) to make backup copies of the original CD's and it worked. I can install and run the game with the copy CD's. Regards,

Funny, I tried it yesterday with the same software and it didn't work. It seems like it might have been, but the disc was only being read at 0.1x speed...

Wish I had known that, it was near 10000 sectors into it.
![]() BTW, what's a typical time for this to take anyway? Might try again if it won't take too long... EDIT: Just finished the Image and burnt it to CD. Seems to work okay, though the error about not having the CD in the drive still shows up for a few seconds before the game starts... Anyway, it took about 3 1/2- 4 hours to make the image. I am just glad I am not copying both CDs. I'll use the real CDs for installing it and this backup for playing! Thanks for all the help guys!

With my LiteOn 32123S (latest firmware) and Alcohol 120% it takes never over 10 Minutes to dump an image of SD2 prot. CD.

It's probably just my DVD-Rom. It's one of those Samsung drives that has troubles with Securom discs. Never did figure out which firmware update was needed. So, it's still at whatever version was originally installed on the PC a year ago when it was put together...
Oh well, I am off to play Wolverine's Revenge!
