dvd rom drive problems

well if its not one thing its another-

make --AFFREY DVD OEM

my dvd rom drive powers up and plays/reads cds/cdroms-
but when i put a dvd in it ALL the lights on the drive and the tower come on i double click MY COMPUTER and nothing happens
mmm?
any ideas?
