Philips CDRW2412 Speed Problem

I was wondering if anyone could help me out with my problem. I bought the Philips CRW2412 at the end of 2002 and it worked great. However, about a month or two after I got it it would only allow me to burn at 16X instead of the max of 24X. Even when I right click the drive>Properties>Recording tab the drop down menue for writing speed only goes up to 16X when it used to go up to 24X.

Any help?

Thank you.

If it was bought at the end of 2002 then it is still under warranty.

Now that I look at the receipt, I bought it on the 5th of July (2002). UGH, just a tad too late.
