Is there Audio CD protection ?

Hi, Does anyone know weather there is some sort of audio protection on some CD’s Now, I have been trying to download Shania Twains last album, But all the tracks seemed to have a muffled / unclean sound to them no matter where I try to get the mp3 from..

Any body have any ideas!!

Could just be the style of recording of course but I doubt it.
