Hey guys,
I have been struggling with these files and the lack of instructions make it rather confusing. Here is the problem... After hours of frustration, I decided to download the patch for gp3, a game protected with safedisc. I did this to compare the gp3.exe files that seem to be the key to this thing. Here is the just of it: 1) there is a gp3.exe file in a grand prix subfolder 2) there is the encrypted gp3.icd file in the grand prix subfolder 3) I run unsafedisc and I get an error that it cannot find dplayerx.dll, which is in the root directory NOT the grand prix subfolder. 4) I copy the dplayerx.dll to the grand prix subfolder and then ran the unsafedisc, it runs and creates a test.exe file. ** This test.exe file is 8MB in size, the original gp3.exe file is 300kb in size. The original gp3.icd is about 8 MB in size. So something is obviously wrong as the PATCH that I downloaded has only the gp3.exe file that appears to be 300KB which is about the same as the original gp3.exe file. My test.exe file that supposedly is to be renamed gp3.exe is 8MB in size, about the same as the gp3.icd encrypted file. What am I doing wrong......? The unwrapper I am running from a different subfolder, in fact, My hard drive is multipartitioned, so the unwrapper is on f: and the files from the cd are on i: Any help would be appreciated..... Sincerely, Dave S. |

I believe you cdkiller.....You crack for fun, I make a torture of it just trying to get a unwrapper to work.
Did you read my note, the file is only created after I copy the dplayerx.dll file to the grandprix subdirectory where the gp3.exe and the gp3.icd files are and even so the test.exe file is huge compared to the original gp3.exe. Give me some instruction as to how you go about getting it to work as the patch file seems around the correct size and the creator of the patch file said he created it with the unsafedisc unwrapper. This wouldnt be all that hard if someone would go step by step through this... Dave S. |

Believe me it is very easy:
Here the STEP-BY-STEP Instrcutions: - you need the GP3.EXE & GP3.ICD & DPLAYERX.DLL - run Unsafedisc 1.55 and open GP3.ICD - you'll get a TESTME.EXE Now you can choose: 1. rename TESTME.EXE to GP3.ICD and run the game with the original GP3.EXE or 2. rename TESTME.EXE to GP3.EXE and run the with that. It's very easy...

About the size, the unwarpped .exe should be almost equal original .exe + .icd, it's true.
And it's also true that sometimes we gotta manually copy the dplayerx.dll to the root folder of the game in order to unwarp it with unsafedisc. Now, you can put in your backup copy of the game cd (normal copy without cd protection), and run the game with that unwarpped .exe. If it's working, then you can get the unwarpped .exe to replace the original .exe+.icd, but I recommend you just rename the original .exe to .org or .bak... for save reason, such as maybe you wanna update/patch the game in future and you need the original .exe, etc... |
