G'day ... theartfuldodger

Presuming you have downloaded the crack / fix from GCW, they have 3 NO CD fixes available. I could not get the #3 No-CD fix to work on the game so I downloaded fix #2 (Joe Forster/STA one).

This one does work !!

Please note that simply placing the crack / fix in the main Master Rallye game folder & then clicking your shortcut on the desktop is not enough, as the game will still ask for the CD.

You have to execute (double click) the crack file to patch the
" MRallye.exe" file in the game folder. After this if you then try to run the game from the shortcut it created on your desktop, & it still asks for the CD..... then delete that shortcut & start the game from the Mrallye exe in your game folder NOT.. the shortcut on your desktop.

Hope this works for you ..........

Your comment of not being able to make a backup copy is wierd as the Game only has a CD Check protection which almost all Writers & Programs will copy 1:1. Hence... you havent had a quick reply as most people here would have made a 1:1 copy & not needed a crack / fix.

Are you trying to copy a backup copy given to you ?? which may have been a dud copy in the first place.....

The game I have is original.
I could not make a copy with Nero as it could not read the disk. However, I tried the latest clone cd to make a backup and although it read the cd quite slowly near the end, it works fine. I will try the no cd 2# and see if it works for me.
Thanks a lot for your help.
By the way, I do not have a program to detect what sort of protection a cd uses, which is the best program for the job in your opinion?

1. [yAtEs]Protection Detector : for Safedisk & securom protections (mainly to obtain the version number) search on google as written & you'll see it !!

2. many forum users here recommend " Clonyxxl " which is simply a frontend tool for Clone CD to advise you of the protection used & then automatically pass the correct settings to Clone CD.

A useful tool however 1:1 (100% backup) copies are still dependant on your hardware as well.

Above all, GCW tells you the protection used as well on each page........ (bearing in mind Game Developers are known to use different protections for their games shipped around the world.)

If you havent read the sticky up the top titled :

"Vlukas FAQ: Copying protected games HOWTO 1.62" go there & in it a section on : Identifying the protection....also has some links.....

Did #2 fix work ??

Maybe a handy little tip : whenever you have a cd that you can't read, try to read it at the lowest speed possible. You can edit a CloneCD profile (like "Game cd") to change the read speed to 1x. Most cdwriters do not support 1x anymore, but the program will use the lowest speed possible (in my case 4x) and this will always give you better results than trying to read it at full speed (default). It may not work, but often it does and I've saved quite some cd's with it. Try to make sure that if this works, you make a new cd with the image.

If the game has a securom new protection or your writer doesn't really support safedisc 2, you can burn the image files themselves to a new cd. Every time you need that cd, you can always copy the image files back to your hard disk and mount them using Daemon Tools. Oh, and if you managed to make an image, it really pays to check it with CD Mage. This will allow you to find read errors, it sometimes fixes them, and it can locate the files that are damaged. Safedisc 2 has a lot of errors that are not part of a file, so do not try to correct those.
