A Tough ONE

PROBLEM!!

We have 2 PS2's here, fitted with sanyo lasers form manufacture, (v5/6)

we have recently purchase some BRAND NEW Sony replacement green bottom lasers (v5-v8)

they do work but it takes about two minutes form browser screen and a lot of clicking sounds,

I ve been offered a flash of my eprom to make the ps2 compatiable with sony lasers rahter than sanyo.

Is this guy pulling my leg? an if not where can i get the equiptment to flash eprom's myself,

thanks for the help!

where did u get the brand new lasers from?

I thought u could only get refurbished lasers and that they were pretty poor.

As far as I know u can only get a brand new replacement if yr PS2 goes back to sony for a guarenteed repair, otherwise u r buying refurbished ones.

Also sounds like yr lasers need calibrating if they r clicking and slow to load up.

Yeah... Definately sounds like a claibration problem.

If you search the forum. Charlie_PS2 has written an extensive post about that very subject.

It may help you in your quest.

Its not the calibration ive already tried that for hours,

there are two types of laser youre ps2 can be fitted with from manufacture (ive heard) sanyo and sony,

if you have a sanyo laser and try and replace it with a sony laser then it does what myn is doing clicking loads and taking ages to load!

ive fitted a few lasers before and never had this problem,

i must of just had sony lasers originally and replaced them with sony lasers,

but now i have a console with a sanyo laser fitted from manufacture and i need to put a sony replacment laser inside it,

ive been told i need to flash the eprom chip or there is a small mod i can do on the laser

(does n e one know of this mod or where to get the equiptment to flash the eprom????)

help much appreciated

okay, i,ve replaced about 3 brown bottom lasers for green bottom ones and have never had any problem with getting them to run, just drop em in and off they go.

Still sounds like a height or azimuth issue to me.

Have u had a scope hooked up to the PS2 to see what the eye pattern looks like.

I am assuming that you've removed the anti-static precaution links soldered on the lasers that r put on them during transportation?
