Question CD/DVD-R Media for PS2 Backups

I've read many posts here re: media types to use for PS2 backups and was wondering are there some simple basic guidelines for buying these media especially as it relates to protecting the PS2 laser for as long as possible. Money isn't a huge issue however I don't want to go broke either. I'm not sure if the media (CD-R) matters between PS1 and PS2's.

My concerns are:
Silver/Silver's
Black backs
Brands/Price (Top 3)
Best buy for laser reads

My Equip:
Plextor 40/12/40A
v5 30001 R/Magic 2
LF-D311 DVD-R/RAM
Lite-on 16/10/40
