Burned 2-disc PSX game using swap method

Ok here is my problem, I haven't really experimented much but for what I have done, it hasn't worked. Anyway, how am I supposed to play a burned 2-disc PSX game using the swap method? When I get done with disc 1 and it says change to disc 2 I put in my copy of disc 2 (I have tried using the swap method and by just opening it by pressing the open disc tray button...neither worked). So are there any solutions to this without having to buy a mod-chip?

Oh and I forgot to mention I'm using a ps2 with the gameshark 2 and doing the swap method.
