ntsc on pal with ar2+ns4 no good?

Hey

When i try to boot Virtua Fighter 4 (usa release) on my PAL PS2 with no solder bootchip (v4) and AR2 it just freezes. Will that combination not allow me to play NTSC games?
I can't find any PAL patch to try out. Thanks for any help!
