new and confused

I have found my way here after trying to play a game without the cd,found a no cd patch for the game and have downloaded it,but what do I now do with it (polite replies please),do I copy paste it somewhere?I am relatively new to Puters so please be gentle and not too confusing,thanks in advance.Tartdog.
