What exactly does upgrading the firmware do?

Hi, I've got a 9300i HP Burner and I'm thinking of upgrading the firmware to see if it'll copy SD2 games or not. However, I need to know if this is permanent or can I just reformat the computer and start where I was? Thanks in advance for the help.

It will probably copy SD2 right now but the game won't start after installing. You'll need the fixed alice.exe from gamecopyworld.com

The only, and I'll get flack for saying this, drives that will copy SD2 are the ones using Phillips hardware technology. These drives include various brands using the same unit but with their own company name and model number. Some Plextor drives, including some Phillips, the 800 model for instance, will correctly burn the image you've made.
