invalid write state

MY freecom cdrw is crap...
i get 90% of a disk burned then .... makes a wierd spining noise
and says invalid write state.... (in Nero the only prog i use)
any ideas apart from i need a new 1 ...
also .... any 1 got any tips for cd settings i.e cache size..
