need help with NHL 2002 fix

i've done a complete install from the original CD, and then copied the no-CD exe to the directory. the error on load says i should put the CD Rom in my C: (?) drive. what am i doing wrong? how can it be pointing to my C: drive? please be specific and thanks for any help.
