Chrono Cross CD swapping

I've been playing Chrono Cross (original, American NTSC) on my PAL PSX using a pro action replay and a burned boot cd to change the video mode and everything's been working great. I then got to the part where I have to change to the second CD but the CD doesn't stop spinning! I've even tried swiching CD's while it's still moving but the game seems to be frozen in the insert CD 2 screen! I don't know how I'll solve this. I'd sure love some help!
