Stealth Mod-Chip question

Two-parter here:

Does anybody know if the 'Multi Mode' and 'Mod Max' chip is the same thing? They are both listed as MM 3 chips. The reason is I'm interested in buying a stealth chip for PS-one, but I'm not sure which is the best chip to buy.

Is it true that you can play all so-called "protected" games with a stealth chip, even ones where your mod-chip recognizes the backup and shuts down?
