Game backups

I have 2 playstations at home. One of them is the SCPH-5552 on which I'm using a PS Power Replay module. This requires the use of a boot cd to be able to start the copied cd.
The problem I have is that when I use the backup cd it will either not start or have distorted video. The original works fine. Does anybody have an idea what this could be? Is the laser not powerfull enough to read the backup cd?
