Is it me? or my CD?

I failed my first attempt at a backup.
I attempted to copy my Hogs of War CD. (thinking this should be straightforward).
I used CDRWIN (downloaded fresh from the website).
I made a .bin and .cue of the original.
I burned the .bin and .cue - without any patches/modifications.
I attempted to play the CD on my PSX, and it loads the game, and when you are selecting your squad I get a read error of an "!" with a CD.
Is this a read error because I did something wrong?? or did my CD burner just screw up this CD. (should I try another?)
