Is Antimod the same as Libcrypt

I know there is alot of talk about antimod chip games. but I have some questions.
If you have an antimod game original will it detect the modchip and still crash.
I have made a copy of Spyro3 with a plextor and CDclone and it works without a patch even 70% into the game, is this because it has a libcrypt protection and not an antimod chip protection.
If you can backup an antimod chipped game with CDclone and play it without a patch or play an original antimod chip game in a 4 wire chipped PSX then surely its not really checking the chip just the game itself.
So what the thing with these so called stealth chips that are suposedly undectable to antimodchip games, could this be just a ploy to get more money for chips.
