Can't play burned PSX games

I've have a PS2 modded. I have no idea on the mod chip since I bought it used. I can play original PS1 games no prob but no burned PS1 games. I've burned many PS2 games without a hitch. I've tried using various softwares like CDclone, nero, cdrwin, alcohol 120. all comes out the same result. the machine can't read it. would it be the quality of the CD? or should i just try to burn them into a DVD's?
