Nero eating memory?
Before I start, here are my system specs:
p4 2.4 GHZ 800mhz front side bus 512MB PC3200 (DDR400) RAM 120 GB Maxtor ATA133 HDD Plextor 40/12/40 burner Win2k fresh install with all latest drivers/updates/firmware/bios/etc. Recently installed Nero 6. When attempting to copy data/audio CD, I notice that my memory is being eaten up completely. I can't even open internet explorer without serious lag and greatly decreased burn speed. I know that generally its not a good idea to multi-task when burning, but with a system like mine this shouldn't be a problem. Pre-burn, I have about 400 MB (out of 512 MB) physical RAM free. As soon as I start burning, without running any other tasks, I literally drop down to 3 MB free RAM. I know this is not right. Is anyone else having the same experience? Is this a common thing with the new Nero? The main reason I ask is because I need to use Nero to copy audio cd's because it allows me to access the FreeDB service from which I can add on CD-Text to each audio cd. Is there any other copying software that allows access to CD-Text adding through internet access? Please let me know, or if there is a way to fix this Nero memory problem. Any and all help would be appreciated. |

hi. my backup system runs
windows xp pro with sp1 athlon duron 1gig processor 320 mb of pc 100 sdram 2 x 40 gb hard drives pioneer ao5 panasonic DLF 310 dvd-r/ram i regularaly use nero 6.0 and whilst burning dvd's or cd's i always multi task ie surf the net play mp'3s. and yes for the sceptics i do multi task while burning dvd with no adverse affects. so for me at least nero 6.0 has no affect at all on my memory use. |

A question I would have....
Is this a d/l or cracked version of Nero 6? This is the 3rd of 4th person I have seen with this type of problem and ALL of them have been using a pirated/cracked version of Nero 6.... I'm not saying that this is your problem.... I was just curious.... I use Nero 6 on a P4 2.26 with no problems at all and multi-task constantly.... |

No this is a retail version I bought at a store, then updated using the file on the Nero website. How would a cracked version have any affect on performance? It is identical software the only difference is you use a generated serial key, which is just as good as a real one off a box. With an invalid cd-key the software would not work to begin with.
Is there some memory tweak or something that i'm missing, a system setting I overlooked? thanks. |

A while back, if you were using a cracked version of Clone CD or CDRWin (cant remember which) it would act as if it was burning discs just like it was supposed to do, but in reality the only thing you had was a nice shiny coaster.... Also, not all software requires a cd-key.... And even some that do will work regardless if the key is correct or not...(ie Microsoft Office 97) You could actually type in anything you wanted and it would install and work fine....(Hehe... Way to go Microsoft) But regardless, this isnt your problem since you purchased it.... When I installed Nero 6, I didnt change any settings at all, at it works perfectly.... You might try completely uninstalling it and then reinstall it... (Make sure you remove all the registry settings also) Also, in the Preferences tab under "Ultrabuffer" you can set it so that it will use whatever amount of Memory you want it to. I personally have mine set to Auto.... |
