dvd capacity

Can someone clarify how can I burn movies over 5 gigs?
I mean, as I read in dvd writer specs they can write up to 4.7 gigs but movies over 2 hours have more than 5gigs.

Or I did not get right the dvd technology?

Thanks a lot

Nearly all dvd movies are dual layered(dvd9) so you can't just burn them to a 4.7 gb dvd(dvd5) Removing all the extras might shrink in down small enough but recoding might also be necessary. It is a lengthy process and I personally don't think it is worth it. You can read up on how to do this at doom9.net. I use dvdxcopy, you have probably seen a banner for it on this site. It makes burning a dvd easy as possible, just like copying a cd. It usualy takes 2 discs, sometimes 1 though. You can read up on this at dvdxcopy.com.
