Heyo
Question Laser Scratches

Hi,
I was just wondering if it is normal for an F'ed up laser to scratch up cds/dvds (circular scratches)? Mine is vertical. And all my games are scratched up, but can play no problem. The previous laser or tray or whatever scratched them. Is this supposed to happen?

Thanks

The laser assembly itself does not touch the disc.....(Unless something has come apart inside) Usually you get scratches on the disc from the tray... Its not supposed to happen..... At least it doesn't on mine.... Might need to pull it apart and take a look or at least let someone do it for you BEFORE it makes your games UNREADABLE.....

Heyo
What I meant was that my older laser was quite messed up. It could not read the cds and dvds. Functioned very poorly, all kinds of noises. Was it because of the faulty laser that the tray came in contact with the disc?

Thanks

Yes I have heard of this. I have never researched it fully but I know about this first hand.

When a PS2 is vertical (something not sure if it is the laser or not) does make contact with the disc. It is known that the laser does get closer to the disc in this position and is recommended when people are having problems with their horizontal PS2's reading discs.

If your ps2 can read discs fine in the horizontal position then I would say leave it flat.

Or you could just get some finishing car polish (not wax) and a soft cloth, to buff your discs back to new. I do this on occasion, primarily with rental games. Makes them look new and most scratches dissapear.

This was a problem with earlier PS2's, mostly versions 1 and 2. The motor didn't completely lift the cd off the tray causing it to scrub. Sony claimed to fix this problem on the later versions.

Well I know that on my old (already sold) version 4 ps2, that scrubbing effect was still there. I am looking at my GS2 v1.92 and it has little scratches.
