spyro Yr Dragon

I've tried to copy spyro year of dragon I keep getting the console modified screen. I'm using a psx exchange disc. I've tried to use patches. there are so many. I'm in the USA so I used th nstc one.
I get a blank screen after the intro for the patch. I have copied other games with no problem but lately I've been having this problem. I copied Harry Potter but could not Lilo & Stitch, same problem. I'm supplying the East Coast with coasters!
I'm probably not patching correctly and I have read the instructions. I'm also using pp-omatic which seem to work good.
could someone give me more info on this screen and the cause and hopefully a solution?
