Nero and x12 plextor

I've been running a x12 sped plextor for a few months now with Nero 5. The problem is that the buffer keeps empties and stops it burning untill the buffers fill again. When I've done a speed test on my Hard Drive it says its 5000Kb/sec, x12 speed writes at 1800Kb/sec so can anyone shed any light onto why my buffers are struggling. I don't have anything running at the same time as I'm burning.

Please help

What ide channel is your writer connected to? If you want to burn data from your harddrive, you should have your writer at a different controller than your harddrive. To make it perfect, there shouldn't be any other drive connected to the same controller. If you have a mainboard with one ide controller (-> 4 channels) use the following configuration:

Primary Master: HDD
Secondary Master: CD-ROM drive
Secondary Slave: Writer

The other side of the coin: Now you might have problems doing copies from cd's "on the fly" (directly from your cd-rom drive).
So if you have two controllers, connect the writer to the second controller, so that it got a controller all for himself.

Maybe that helps. But also make sure that you use the latest version of Nero (check their webpage) or try using different software.
