Gruggle, unless you have the latest patch from Blizzard (which is war3.exe version 1.01.4483), you won't be able to use the second method where you create the .bat file. However, the 1st method will still work.
First of all, do you have WinXP? i think it's been said somewhere in this forum that only WinXP can rename the file. (Verify that)
Okay, although this was posted by raindeer, i'll modify it a little bit in order to perhaps clarify this for you:
Let's assume you installed a fresh install. When you go into your WarcraftIII folder, your war3.exe version will be 1.00.4448. Using your original CD, log on to Battlenet and it will automatically download the latest patch for you. When it does, your war3.exe will have changed to version 1.01.4483.
Ok, now download the Warcraft 3 No-CD file for version 1.01.
Extract it. Now, you can try the 1st method again. It will work. In fact, before I made the .bat file, I was using the 1st method for the past 2 days.
