Firstly, some protected cds take an age to read if your burner isn't that great. This is because some protections (particularly safedisc 1 & 2) use "read errors" on the cd to deter copying. So, the long time to read is normal. The length of time required to read a cd depends on whether these errors exist or not. Some cdroms are better than others. It would appear that yours isn't that hot!
Secondly, your burner cannot handle Safedisc ver2, but should be able to copy safedisc ver1.
I cannot remember which one "The Sims" is protected with so I suggest you get yourself a copy protection detector called "CLONY XXL".
You'll find it if you do a google search. It will detect what protection is on your cd, then pass the correct settings over to clonecd for you.

And finally, do a search of these forums first as you'll find this kind of question has been answered a thousand times, with plenty of in depth answers.
