Sorry Cirkutz, didn't put 2 and 2 together there....Now I know who I'm talkin to
The software in question is the IS Mech Pack Expansion for Mechwarrior 4 which is installed over top of both the original game and the BlackKnight expansion.
When I say the original exe was untouched....that is, that it was wrapped with safedisc 2.51 (as installed off of the BlackKnight CD) and did not change after the install of the mech pack itself. (same properties).
the mechpack used safecast (and yes, it is confirmed to be safecast, but version unknown). It installs off of a dir called CDSET from the CD automatically and contains the following files:
CDAC14BA.DLL 110 kb
CDAC21BA.DLL 2,972 kb (says ver 2.2.40.0)
SCSHD.CSA 2 kb
SCSHD.EXE 482 kb
Unlike the first two portions of this game, this CD requires a serial number to install....which is not a problem, but during the process of installation, it creates a C-DILLA directory (hidden btw and at no time is the user notified that this is being installed). Within this dir is another dir called "SafeCast Product Licenses". Inside that dir is a .dat file which I presume holds specific license information for the particular program I am running.
In all my research on this program, most sites indicate that upon uninstall of ALL programs that require the SafeCast loader to be installed, SafeCast is supposed to remove itself. In this case (surprise), it does NOT. Even after full uninstall of the game, the dir, the .dat and all of the C-DILLA entries in the registry are still present. This is what scares me into not using this software at all and the reason I want the means to disable that portion of the software.
Hope that info gives more help...
