Hmm, its probally the disc, clean it with a cd cleaner, I can also read games that wont play on my ps2 on my pc. The reason for that could be is that the ps2 laser is dusty or needs to be replaced. You can use a cd lens cleaner on the ps2 but one of those air dust cans for the pc would work. i hardly doubt its the modchip though.
