charlie's answer: So far as I know there is no Yamaha 8496. There is an 8424 and it is not the ideal CRW for PS2 games. The Yamaha 2100/2200 are suitable because they have what is known as DAO-RAW+96 which ensures that sub-channel data is read/written using the 1:1 copier CloneCD. CloneCD is available from www.elbe.de. Instructions are on www.psxcopyworld.co.uk. By using this program, you can avoid having to patch games to make them work.

Do I need a MODCHIP ,Which one is the best
charlie's answer: Yes you do. The only real game in town is the Messiah modchi. Boots everything without swapping for a boot disk. Some modchips require double swaps which are very tedious.

Also what is the differance between CD games and DVD games.I have heard that DVD games need to be ripped. What does this mean and how is this done .
charlie's answer: CD games are less than 650MB in size; DVD games are uo to 4.5GB in size. Ripping is when you strip out unwanted stuff on the DVD and put it all back together again on a CD within 650 or 700 MB. It's very difficult to do, time consuming and how the heck can you do a meaningful rip of 4.5GB down to 650MB? Forget it. Buy a DVD writer like many others do and coy DVD games properly.

Any and all help would be great .
P.S Please be gentle...I'm new to this
