Every CDR has something called an ATIP - this holds information such as manufacturer, length, dye colour etc. Pressed cd's (originals) don't have an ATIP. So most new games check to see if the cd being used has an ATIP - if it does then it won't play.

The main bug to this protection is that only mainly cd-writers can read ATIP - most normal CD-ROMS can't read it so it can't check for it.

So if you play a game from a burner, Hide CD-R Media does exactly wat it says on the tin.
