If, you copy the CD contents to the hdd, you won't have a 1:1 image of the original. Therefore, it won't pass the SD2 checks, etc. If, what you want is a 1:1 backup, that is NOT an option.
Assuming your hardware (the burner) and the software you're using are capable of doing a 1:1 of SD2 (v2.51.021), then you should not have any problems doing so, when using the appropriate settings that work best for your particular hardware/software combo (among others using FES (fast error skip) as already pointed out by packer). You might want to read a bit slower (perhaps x4?) and also change the retries to 3 and the correction to hardware from software, depending on your hardware. Also, as packer already suggested, try Clony as a guideline and experiment if need be, if you have 1:1 cloned SD2 (v2.51.021) in the past with your current setup then it's not any different, whatever worked before will work now just the same.
If, you're still having problems after this or have any other questions about the 1:1 cloning process, I suggest you hit the search button and do a bit of reading for the answers, there's a HUGE amount of info on the topic on this site.
Good luck.
