Question 1:1 Copy of DVD's

I was wondering if there's a way to make 1:1 exact duplicates of DVDs with a Panasonic DVAO3 on a DVD-R that will play on standalone dvd players. I'm considering purchasing a DVD burner to backup some of my DVD collection.

Is there something sort of like clone-cd? I know about DeCSS (although I don't know how it works), but I figured if you ran it and cracked the DVD, then couldn't you put it on a DVD-R?

If a 1:1 copy can't be made, then I won't bother with paying 300 - 400 bucks on a burner. I don't really have to have the extras I guess, as long as I could get the same great sound and picture quality. Thanks.
