To check your ASPI version, you need a program called aspichk.exe - I think you get it from the Adaptec home page.
Normally the aspi32.exe program will update your ASPI drivers, but sometimes (ie my case), the program will report that your ASPI drivers arn't compatible with Adaptec software or something like that, and will refuse to update the drivers. But there is another program called aspiinst.exe that will by-pass the Adaptec check.
